October 15, 2023: Chloe and the Olympia Symphony Orchestra performed Tchaikovsky’s 1st Piano Concerto to a nearly sold-out crowd of admirers and music and arts lovers. The stunning performance had everyone on their feet with shouts of encores and bravos all around!
The backstory: It has been months of preparation for this moment. When Chloe won the inaugural OSO Young Artist competition in January, it was with the expectation that she would perform the rollicking 7-minute THIRD movement of the Tchaikovsky. However, the monumental FIRST movement had been on her “dream list” of pieces to learn for several years (it’s much harder than the 3rd movement, and over 20 minutes long!), so we put in a request to change it. Then in February, Maestra Alex asked if Chloe would like to perform the entire concerto - wow! Chloe was thrilled to be asked and eagerly agreed to it! It felt like a huge honor to be asked to do this. By early summer, Chloe finished learning the 1st and 2nd movements. She then performed it at as many places and for as many people as we could (more than 10 times) between July and October. We thank all of the wonderful friends, relatives, and teachers who supported Chloe by coming to these pre-concerts - some even came twice!
The week of the performance, there were 2 rehearsals with the orchestra; Chloe also played for two master lessons, had a chamber orchestra clinic 2 days before, a radio interview, and the PSAT the day before - it was a crazy schedule! The day of the concert, there was a full dress rehearsal ending less than 2 hours before show time, with an interview in between!
So many friends, family, and supporters came to the concert for which we are so appreciative! Chloe says it was the BEST day of her life!!! We thank all of the wonderful people who came with support and encouragement along the way!
